1.1. Cricut Joy

Cricut Joy is the latest Cricut model. It’s a smart shredder that’s easy to set up and use. It can cut over 50 materials, including paper, vinyl, iron and some thin imitation leather.

This machine has a smaller footprint, making it easy to store in a smaller craft space. It’s the only Cricut machine that’s truly “portable”, in my opinion.

3. Some other options

If you buy a used Cricut, you may come across older Cricut models like the Cricut Explore, Cricut Explore One or Cricut Explore Air. Although these three models have been discontinued, they still work with the current version of Cricut Design Space.

Other old Cricut machine versions, like Expression and Gyspy, are based on designer cartridges. These older machines are no longer supported by Cricut and do not work with Design Space.

The Cricut Cuttlebug is another manual die-cutting machine that has also been discontinued.

4. Which Cricut should you get?

The best Cricut for you depends on the type of project you want to do. Think about the kinds of materials you want to cut before choosing which Cricut machine to buy.

When to choose Cricut Explore 3: Cricut Explore 3 is the best-selling Cricut machine and gives you great “value for money”. Cricut Explore is my all-around top pick for Cricut newbies on a budget.

It’s a relatively fast and robust machine that cuts a maximum width of 12″. And as mentioned before, it cuts over 100 popular craft materials, including paper, vinyl, and iron.

So if you like paper and vinyl crafts (and don’t need to cut a lot of fabric and wood), your best bet is the Cricut Explore 3.

When to choose Cricut Maker 3: Cricut Maker 3 can do everything Cricut Explore can do, etc. I recommend upgrading to Maker if you want the versatility to cut heavy materials like wood and leather and thin materials like crepe paper and fabric for sewing projects.

Speaking of using Cricut sewing projects, Cricut Maker has a unique rotary cutter perfect for cutting fabric patterns, quilt embellishments and other fabric projects.
